In the first quarter of 2024, the tax preparation and planning category on Android has seen varying levels of user engagement. Here's a snapshot of how the top five applications performed, based on data from Sensor Tower.
TurboTax: File Your Tax Return saw a spike in downloads, starting at 45K in the first week of January and reaching a peak near 286K towards the end of the month. The downloads then gradually tapered off to about 80K by the end of March. Weekly active users showed a similar trend, soaring to 715K before settling around the 500K mark.
IRS2Go experienced a surge in downloads during February, with the highest at approximately 76K. However, downloads declined to 28K by late March. The app's weekly active users peaked at 786K and saw a gentle decrease to just under 600K by the quarter's end.
MyBlock maintained steady download numbers, with the highest at 61K in late January and a decrease to around 16K by March. Weekly active users peaked at 85K and showed a downward trend, finishing the quarter at around 52K.
H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes showed modest download numbers, peaking at 48K in January and dropping to nearly 10K by the end of March. Active users reached a high of nearly 27K, but by the quarter's close, the numbers had dipped to slightly over 10K.
Keeper had a quieter quarter, with downloads starting at nearly 6K and ending with no new downloads in the last week of March. The application did not report weekly active users data.
